U's Fan's Agony
The Blue Square Premier Play-Off final at Wembley on Sunday 18th May has come on the worst possible day for one exiled Cambridge United supporter.
The club's big Play-Off date coincides with a long standing charity commitment for U's supporter Richard Nurse. It is the day of the Great Manchester Run and Richard has targeted himself to raise over £1,000 for Cancer Research UK by taking part.
Richard Nurse was raised in Cambridge and has always avidly followed the Club. The 37-year-old now lives and works as an Client Sales Manager in Manchester, and he is devastated that he might miss seeing his beloved football club play in the Conference Play-off at Wembley and attempt to clear the final hurdle to get back into the Football League.
The logistics of completing the Great Manchester Run and getting down to London in time for the 4pm kick-off look nigh on impossible, unless his frantic pleas to the organisers are heeded and they allow him to start in an earlier wave.
Richard told us, "I am really torn on this issue. Whilst my heart will always be with United, I have pledged to raise this money for an extremely worthy cause and my sponsorship money is ever increasing.
"I have trained well and I would hate to let people down who have been so supportive, and so I have to take part in the run. I just hope that the organisers will let me start earlier and I might be able to make the game at Wembley."
