Jimmy Quinn was unhappy with many aspects of Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at Crawley Town, not least the way his players failed to take on board their instructions about the opposition players

Lee Boylan cancelled out Kevin James' 13th minute opener with his seventh goal in the last seven games, but Dannie Bulman volleyed home in the second half and this time United had no answer, Boylan coming nearest to a second equaliser when he hit the bar.

"I'm very disappointed, we're a lot better than that," fumed Quinn afterwards. "That performance wasn't good enough for me, never mind the travelling fans who came all this way. They had all the information about Crawley and their players but we couldn't cope with them and they deserved to win.

"We weren't strong enough on the ball and we were too happy to look for decisions from the referee and wait for him to protect us, so we got caught up in that and I'm disappointed in the attitude of our players tonight. Football is all about attitude and we needed to be more resilient and aggressive."

Refusing to blame an ever-lengthening injury list that meant the five substitutes were all aged 19 or under, Quinn added, "Injuries mean an opportunity for people to come in, and the kids that came on did well for us.

"Some of the performances of our senior players tonight were not good enough for this football club.

"Football has a habit of kicking you in the teeth and one or two of our players tried to take the easy route today. We didn't cope with Crawley and we need to bounce back on Saturday."

He concluded, "We had great support here and they know we didn't perform, and we owe them a performance on Saturday."

United are next in action at home to Weymouth on Saturday at 3pm.
