Cambridge United have rejected a six-figure bid from Peterborough United for leading scorer Scott Rendell.

Earlier this week the U's rejected bids from League One side Southend United for defender Michael Morrison, who then boosted the club by signing a new two-and-a-half year contract, and today Director George Rolls told cambridgeunited.com that a new bid for striker Rendell has been turned down.

"I've talked about this with Jimmy Quinn and with the other board members, and we're in agreement that we want to get back into the Football League and it would not be a wise decision or in our best interests to sell our leading scorer," he confirmed.

"Jimmy doesn't want to sell him and the Board is backing him 100%."

However Rolls warned, "I can't say it will never happen because obviously every player has his price, but this was a six figure sum and I think the fact that we've rejected it shows how ambitious the directors are and how we're backing the manager."

21-year-old Rendell is United's leading scorer with 22 goals in all competitions, including 17 Blue Square Premier goals, which makes him second only to Forest Green's Stuart Fleetwood who has scored 21 league goals.
