Captain for the day Danny Potter and debutant Josh Coulson both shared their thoughts about Saturday's 2-2 draw at home to Halifax Town.

Potter was disappointed at the award of the first penalty that allowed Halifax to take the lead, saying, "Yet again, we've gone a goal down.

"I've asked the referee to look again at the video because it was never a penalty. Their guy has felt a little touch and gone to ground, so again we are having to work to get the game back. But as everyone on and off the pitch here knows, we have the character to do that and got it back to a 2-1 lead and had two or three chances to kill the game off.

"But then they get the equaliser from a long throw which should have never happened. I've also asked the referee to look at his decision to book Marvin for simulation when he went down in the box in exactly the same situation to the penalty he gave against us.

"If someone is one on one with the keeper and with no one else near him, and having played the ball past him why would he then dive? The lack of common sense from officials must come into it."

But the U's goalkeeper is now looking ahead to Tuesday evening, when Rushden & Diamonds visit the Abbey for a Setanta-televised match.

"We'll have to pick ourselves up for Tuesday, when a few of the suspended and injured players will be up for selection. Hopefully the magnificent support who were behind us throughout the game will be back again in their numbers and we'll aim to give them a victory they deserved from today's efforts.

"Although I'm third choice captain, I was honoured to be given the chance to wear the armband at such a massive club today and it made me feel very proud. It's just a shame we couldn't finish it off with a win."

It was a special afternoon for 18-year-old centre-half Josh Coulson, who came off the bench in the second half to make his senior debut in place of Gavin Hoyte, but he admitted that the Halifax equaliser spoiled the day.

Josh Coulson"I was really pleased to make my debut but to let the lead slip kind of took the shine off the day," he admitted.

"It is a big step up and it's a lot quicker than the Ridgeons League level with CRC, but having Mark Peters out there alongside me helps a great deal and so does the work the experienced lads do on the training ground.

"The fans got behind me when I came on as well and they really are like an extra man.

"So although they'll be disappointed with the draw today, we need them back and giving us the great backing they did today on Tuesday."
