Scott Rendell scored the winning goal on Tuesday night in his first start for the club, and vowed to work hard to keep his place in the starting line-up.

"That was my first full 90 minutes of the season and I thought I'd be a lot more leg heavy than I feel now, but I may feel a bit different in the morning!" he admitted.

"I felt good out there, a little bit tired in patches but the adrenaline from the goal got me through it, and I'll keep working hard in training and fight to keep my place."

The goal was Rendell's third in three games after he scored the late, late equaliser at home to Ebbsfleet last Monday and put United ahead at Weymouth on Friday, and he commented, "I was delighted with the goal - to be fair, it was just a reaction finish. The ball came into the box and I had space and got my head to it."

The 20-year-old finished by praising the United supporters, who maintained a great atmosphere throughout the game.

"It definitely helps when we attack the Newmarket Road End; the crowd does a fantastic job down that end of the pitch.

"We said in the dressing room after the game that the crowd played a major part in the three points."
