Frank Gray was pleased with the way his Woking side defended against Cambridge United in Saturday's 0-0 draw.

"It was a tough game and a good test for us today," he said. "Cambridge are a big strong side and you can see why they won their first three games. They get the ball forward quickly but I thought we coped with them quite well.

"It shows how well we defended in the game when you look at the fact that our young goalkeeper Ross Worner has come on and he had one cross and no saves to make. In fact he couldn't have had an easier debut and that's all credit to the defenders in front of him - they defended right from the front very well."

Worner came on for his Woking debut in the 25th minute following an injury to senior keeper Nick Gindre as he challenged for a ball with Leo Fortune-West, and Gray commented, "A lot of bodies went up and Nick went down but didn't get up. It was impossible to see from my position what happened and there's no point in looking at the video because it won't change a lot.

"There were no concerns in throwing on the young lad," he added. "He was confident, his kicking was good and he handled what little he had to do well.

"Overall I was very pleased with the way we played today, Cambridge had a lot of posession but caused us very few problems. They have experience in the side and strong players in important positions.

"Cambridge are a very strong side and they won't be far away from the top come the end of the season."

United's next match is at home to Ebbsfleet United on Monday (3pm).
