Defender Mark Albrighton hailed the supporters for their part in Thursday's 2-1 win against Oxford United, saying, "The fans help a lot - the support towards the end of the game gave us an extra inch in our step and the fact that we got the three points is partly down to their efforts as well."

Deputising as captain for the ill Danny Brown, Albrighton added, "We did OK at the back. The two lads playing with me (Morrison and Hoyte) are young and they're learning with each game.

"We were disappointed with their goal, but it's something we'll learn from and we'll work harder in training on stopping that happening again. Defensively from front to back I thought we thoroughly deserved the three points."

Lee Boylan scored the winning goal in stoppage time - his second goal in two games for United - and he admitted, "I couldn't have asked for a better start to my time here.

"Carrying on from my six goals pre-season, to get two in my first two league matches is all I could ask for. I've come here to score goals and so far so good.

"As a striker you are helped by the rest of the team and every player here is massively confident in what we can achieve and the team spirit is superb. That can only help the squad and as individuals it can only help you fit in.

"The support is a massive part of the team," he commented. "We all appreciate it and it's also down to them, the start that we've had."

The former Canvey striker revealed that he thought United could still win the game even as it entered stoppage time at 1-1, and added, "Even though my goal was right at the death I didn't feel we'd lost our chance to win the game.

"We'd got back on top and were really pushing them back, and when the ball dropped to me I turned and hit the shot as quickly as I could. The goalkeeper wasn't prepared for it and luckily it ended up in the far corner."

Looking ahead to Tuesday's match at home to newly-promoted Farsley Celtic, Boylan concluded, "It's important that we build on these two wins over two of the promotion favourites and take that to Farsley in our next match.

"Although they're not as high profile as the teams we've faced, they'll still want to take us all the way and it's important we don't let our standards drop and get complacent."

Tuesday's match kicks off 7.45pm.
