We are delighted to announce the signing of Luke Berry on a two year scholarship effective from next summer.

Luke was offered a scholarship early due to his outstanding displays for our Under 16's this season, and signed forms before Christmas. He turned down a similar offer from a Championship club to commit his immediate future to Cambridge United.

Luke has been training twice weekly with our current scholars thanks to a day release arrangement with his school, Bassingbourn Village College, and we are extremely grateful to them for their ongoing support.

This insight into life as a scholar has been invaluable to Luke in making his decision and plays a vital part of his continued development. He has improved technically under the expert tutelage of Nolan Keeley and is a really exciting prospect.

With Josh Coulson and Robbie Willmott recently signing professional contracts tying them to the club until 2009, Luke has seen that young players have a major role in the club's future and are given every encouragement by first team manager Jimmy Quinn.

For those yet to see Luke in action, he is a combative, dynamic, box to box central midfield player with a fantastic engine, good ability and a great temperament. We have high hopes for his future and look forward to him joining the scheme full-time in July.
